It has been of slow growth from the fact that very many persons who had houses either to move or raise, had the idea that the plastering would be cracked and the chimneys thrown down and other damage done. There is no good ground for such a belief as the contractor makes it his business to raise a dwelling, or move it any distance, and leave it in as good condition as before he touched it. A very successful operator in this line is Mr. Edward Mack. He has been engaged in it for a number of years, and has the materials for doing the most complete work. He refers to what h» has done in this line, and among them are Mr. Geo. Long's house, corner of Fourth sad Langdon streets, and Mr. Geo. Hickson's property, 1124 Union street. Mr. Mack is nowengaged in removing a school housefor Father Peters, of 8t. Mary’s church, to another location. It is the intention ot Father Peters to build a handsome new church in the near future near the spot where the school house nos stands Mr. Mack tins also the contract for raising Mr. C. A. Herb’s business place on Washington street. There are many frame houses, and brick oues too, that could be made valuable by either raising, or rernovit g elsewhere, instead of tearing down.
