News Of Area Service PersonnelFindlay Corpsman At Da Nang Has Big Role In Saving LivesHospital Corpsman v T h i r d Class Emile D. Wittebort is serving at the U. S. Naval Support Activity, (NSA) Da Nang, Vietnam, Station Hospital.The 21-year-old Navyman, son of Mr. John B, Wittehort, of 1315 Summit St., works as a ward corpsman in the In:tensive Care Unit at the hospital.Wittebort was graduated from Truman High School, Independence, Mo., in 1966 and entered the U. S. Navy on Aug. 8, 1967. He reported to NSA Da Nang for duty in February.The Station Hospital is one or the finest in the world for the treatment of combat casualties.The hospital is only ^ninnies away by helicopter from some of the fiercest battlefields of thewar.Casualties arrive directly from the field on medevac helicopters and teams of stretcher bearers, many of them volunteers, rush the incoming patients from the heio pad to waiting physicians, nurses and hospital corpsmen.The dedication and teamwork of the hospital staff has enabled them to save the lives of 95 per cent of all combat casualties Beaching the hospital alive.Facilities at the h o s p i t a 1 include a preventive medicine unit, a frozen blood bank and a medical research unit.Air MedalPfc. Mark Eley, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Eley, Route 1, Carey, has received the Air Medal during ceremonies near An Khe, Vietnam.Pfc.
