•_ need appears.(Cavalry at Des Moines ' The famous Des Moines army post is - occupied by cavalrymen. The Eleventh regiment, or four troops of it, are now here and installed in the post. The -establishment was occupied by two -companies of negro soldiers for a few months, they being engaged in guard -duty only, but the Eleventh cavalry •came directly to the post from the Philippines. E. D. Thomas is colonel of the •regiment and commandant at the post. The work of recruiting the Eleventh to its full strength, supplying the deficiency caused by the service iu the Philippines will be begun immediately.
