Years AgoItema From The Register Of jMay 4, 1943A group of Iola business men waited upon the city commission this morning pointing out that several of the streets in town are pocked with chuck holes and that the condition of the city’s alleys is deteriorating. Some complaint was also made about the present system for collecting garbage.Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Russell announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Romaine, to Pfc. Dale Tharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Tharp of Chanute.Phillip Waugh, small son ofDr. and Mrs. P. W. Waugh,underwent an emergency operation for appendicitis lastnight at St. John’s hospital.Colony: Several girls bicycled to the creek Saturday and enjoyed a picnic. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Litwin since Saturday, will return this evening to Camp Barkeley, Tex.
