Hoff1January 8 at the home of his neighbor,11pecherd Bruce, 2614 Askew avenuecame yesterday from the lips of MrsMary Hoff, the widow and mother ofthree children. Quarrels among children in the neighborhood led to thetragedy. The testimony was givenin criminal court in the trial of Brucefor second degree murder.The courtroom, with Judge BrownHarris presiding, was crowded withneighbors of the two families. Aboutone-half were women. In one of theassistant prosecutor’s rooms a groupof children awaited their call to thestand.Mrs. Hoff broke down and weptwhile relating how she went to thefront porch of the Bruce home andfound her husband dying. She testified. after she composed herself, thatshe took his head in her lap after Bruce had said to her:“Come and get him—what’s left ofyour husband.”Yesterday was the second day o? thetrial, all of Monday having been devoted to the selection of the jury.The widow testified that after thetragedy she moved from 2608 Askewavenue to 815 West Fortieth street.She said she had three children, Samuel Hoff 14; Wilbur (Buddie) Hoff,12, and Juanita Hoff, 10.Mrs. Huff related the first troublewith Bruce was last Thanksgivingday, when Bruce went to their homeand asked to see Sammy.
