Death of Col. Horatio WoodburyCol. Horatio Woodbury died this afternoon at 2% o’clock, of consumption, in the forty •‘eighth year of his age.Col. Woodbury was born in the state of Maine, and emigrated to the west when quite a youth. He settled at Leavenworth, Crawford county, where for some time be engaged in teaching, afterwards studying law and engaging in its practice.After establishing a successful practice, Col. Woodbury entered the union army during the rebellion and was appointed to the lieutenant colonelcy of the Eighty-first Indiana infantry, bearing himself gallantly while in the army.In 1869 he was appointed Secretary, by President Grant, of Wyoming Territory, but not liking that section resigned after a brief service.In 1870 he was appointed by President Grant Collector of Internal Revenue for this (then the second) district, and held the office until October 1, 1876, fulfilling its duties with great fidelity and acceptability until the district was consolidatedwith the First. Since then he has been engaged in the practice of the law in this city.Col. Woodbury was a gentleman of fine mental culture and a high sense of honor. He was an able lawyer, a courteous gentleman, a loving, indulgent husband and father. His death will be sincerely mourned by all who were fortunate enough to know him well and intimately.
