Morales, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Morales, 3321 Block Ave., East Chicago, Indiana, has been awarded the purpleheart for wounds received while in combat ayalnst the Japanese on Luzon in the Philippines. He was wounded during an enemy artillery bombardment, but is now back to duty.Sergeant Morales is a veteran jungle fighter having previously battled the Japs on Guadalcanal and New Georgia in the Solomon islands with the “Tropic Lightning” division. He has been overseas since March, 1942, when he joined the division in Hawaii. ,Prior to joining the army, in July, 1941.
