Skidding PlaneAlmost CollidesWith NE AirlinerPORTLAND lt;/P)—A skidding Civil Air Patrol plane almost collided earlv today with an air-3liner discharging passengers at Portland Municipal Airport.The twin, engined CAP craft smashed into a baggage rack only 12 feet from a Northeast Airline DC-3 as 10 passengers were leaving the commercial craft.“We were certainly lucky on that one,” said Malcolm H. Barto, a Northeast employe. “No one knows, how many might have been killed if the planes had hit ”Chocks holding the CAP plane apparently slipped while a mechanic was warming up the engines. The plane's right engine and propeller were damaged.Only 28 hours earlier, a Northeast Convair missed the north* south runway and plowed into a snowbank, injuring slightly three of 36 persons aboard.fa
