'Our Men In Vietnam’Five Area Servicemen Earn Awards Of Merit- By MARYE ROWEVarious awards have been earned by “Our Men in Vietnam” and we are very proud of the Job they are doing in Southeast Asia.It’s important that the men are rem embered and when they earn a medal, badge or a citation or certificate of any merit, we like to Acknowledge them and let them knbw that the job they are doing Is appreciated by us all.I: Five recent announcements Rave been made by the U. S. Armed Forces concerning medals and badges earned by atea men in Vietnam. But at this point, let us coin an old cliche, “A jolly good show, GI Joe. We’re proud of you.”Two men have been presented the Bronze Star Medal, while others have earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Air Medal and the Air Force Com-ihehdation Medal,: Sgt. William H. Legg, 21, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dana L. Vickers live at Kesslers Cross Lanes, received the Bronze Star near Trang Bang; and SFC Julian L. Gillispie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert L. Gillispie of Arbovale, received the Bronze Star near Pleiku.Sgt, Legg received the award lor heroism in action while engaged in ground operations against a hostile force in Vietnam.Sgt. Legg is assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion of the 25th Infantry Division’s 12th Infantry.Sgt Gillispie was presentedthe award for meritorious service in ground operations against hostile forces in Vietnam.At the time of the presentation he was a personnel staff non-commissioned officer with the 4th Infantry Division.His wife, Joyce, lives in Green Bank.SPEC. 4 GERALD L.Honaker, whose wife, Shirley, lives in Matoaka, has received the Combat Infantryman Badge in Vietnam.The CIB is worn by front-line soldiers and has been awarded since late in World War IE for sustained ground contact against an enemy.Spec. Holnaker, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lacy L. Honaker of Montcalm, is assigned as a rifleman with the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile).has been decorated with the TJ. S. Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service in Vietnam.Sgt Mitchell distinguished himself as a precision measuring equipment technician at Cam Ranh AB. He was cited for his outstanding professional skill and initiative.The sergeant was presented the medal at Keesler AFB, Miss., where he is now assigned to the 3*9th Student Squadron as a radar technician.He is t 1954 graduate id Bridgeport Township High School,His wife, Wanda, is a daughter of Mrs. Edna A. Cochran of Route 3, Beckley.SPEC. 4 RICHARD 0. Carte, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dana O. Carte of McAlpin, received the Air Medal in Vietnam.He earned the award for combat aerial support of ground operations in Vietnam.Spec. Carte is a grenadier in Company D, 3d Battalion, 187th Infantry, 3d Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile).He entered the Army in May 1968, completed basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky., and was last stationed at Ft Polk, La*., before arriving overseas in Oc tober 1968.The 23-year-old soldier attended Mark Twain High School.He also holds the Combat In fantryman Badge.AIR FORCE T8GT.
