Bartran III has taken a break from putting drug offenders in jail arid has gone into a full-time status with the Mississippi Armv National Guard.As company commander, Capt. Bartran will assume the duties of leading the 114th Military Police (MP) Co. (with locations in Clinton, Canton, and Vicksburg) in active duty in deployment and support of Operation NobleEagle/Enduring Freedom.Bartran’s MP’s are preparing for deployment to Fort Campbell, KY., assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) “Screaming Eagles.” The MP’s will initially take over the Law and Order force protection responsibilities on Fort Campbell while continually remaining prepared and training for follow-on missions and possible deployment abroad.If deployed abroad, the unit will perform the duties of Enemy Prisoner of War Operations, Convoy Escorts, VIP Escort, Battle Field Circulation and Control (patrolling) and many other duties. Basically, MPs do in the battlefield/war environments what civilian police officers do in our communities, just on a larger more serious scale.Bartran is a very proud member of the military with•r13 years of experience. He comes from a long line of proud patriots. In fact,Bartran is the third Robert R. Bartran to have worn the Army Uniform and serve his country abroad.Robert R. Bartran Sr. was in the Army from May of1943 to Sept. 1945 andserved in Europe and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Robert R. Bartran Jr. served in the US Army from Jan. 1964 to Jan. 1967 and was stationed in Okinawa duringPre-Vietnam.Bartran has served since 1988 after graduation from West Jones High School, and has been deployed on three in-state activations for natural disasters (hurricanes, tornadoes, and ice storms). Bartran also served a tour in Europe during Operation Joint Endeavor in support of the Bosnia Affair, which is very similar to the present situations in the Middle East during this conflict.Bartran will take with him a company size element of approximately 138 persons from all over the state of Mississippi. The 114th MP CO is a mixture of men and women who are mostly MP’s, but also consists of clerks, cooks, mechanics, medics, chemical specialist, armorsand supply personnel.Bartran’s unit deployed on Jan. 9, 2002. He and his company will on active dutyfor 12 to 24 months. Bartran commands a very capable Military Police Company who is prepared to serve and protect the country in whatever capacity the President of the United States and the Governor of the State of Mississippi sees fit. The 114th Military Police Company has a long lineage of proud service and deployments in the defense of this nation that Bartran wants tocarry on and expand.
