Rites Monday For Kell Pilot Killed In CrashTentative plans for the funeral of Captain Jerry Pavey Hawkins have been set for Monday, March 29, at the Donoho Prairie Christian church, eastof Kell, pending the arrival of his wife and family from Ft. Fairfield, Maine. The time of the funeral will be confirmed by the Osborn Funeral Home at Kell on Sunday.Capt. Hawkins and Capt. Wm. IT. Campbell of Panama City, Florida, were killed Sunday, March 21 in a plane crash in Viet Nam. They were returning from a mission when their Al£ “Skyraidcr” developed engine trouble, and Ihey were forced to make an emergency landing at Can Tho Air Base. They were stationed at Bien Hoa.Prior to his assignment in Viet: Nam, Capt. Hawkins was stationed at Glasgow Air Force Base, Montana. He was an eleven year veteran of the Air Force, and had flown F89 and F100 jet interceptors for nine years.He graduated with high schol-asitc honors from Salem Community High School in 1951, attended Southern Illinois University at Carbon dale, and received his wings and commission at Bryan, Texas, in November, 1955.On August 29, 1962, he received his degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, graduating as one of the top five members of his class.Besides his wife, the former Beverly Joan Bubar, of Ft. Fairfield, Maine, Capt. Hawkins is survived by two sons, Jerry Pavey, Jr., 6, and Jeffrey Alan, 5; his parents, Pavey and Myrtle (Harris) Hawkins of Kell; one brother, Jimmy Dean of Memphis, Tennessee; and one sister, Mrs. Lee (Hyla Jane) Dobbs of Mt. Vernon.
