Jones of New Boston, another volunteer, participated for four days in one of the most costly battles so far fought by the 36th. “Everything went all right for us.” he recalled, “till our forces formed new lines back away from the river. .When we found it out, we were the only Americans that far forward. Everybody in my division got back through without a scratch.0Not without pride. Captain Roberts rates his medicos as first-class soldiers. “They get into the darnedest predicaments a man without a gun could possibly run into,” he said, “yet they always get out'alive. They must be goc}d.”Typical of 36th division umts, “A” company is composed largely of men with service records dating from mobilization day, Nov. 25, 1940.A graduate of Baylor University College of Medicine at Dallas, Captain Roberts entered the armed forces from Houston's Jefferson Davis Hospital in October, 1941, and was commissioned captain in February, 1042. Made company commander seven months later, ho led his men across the beaches at Salerno during the Fifth Army invasion of Italy and has served in every battle since fought by the 36th division.
