With Garrard's force at his heels he will at least do no material mischief. He is in close and dangerous quarters, and can only escape by sharp praotis*' Precautions have been taken against any raid lt;npon the railroad. Lexington and Richmond are snags in his way; the Kentucky river fords will bo obdtaoles in his path, and if he attempts egress by the Dan-ville or Stanford route he will come to gTief. Nevertheless, a big soars on ao-eount of tha possibilities is certain. It is rumored to-day, and with foundation, that Wolford’s cavalry had a brush with the ad-vanes guard of the rebels at Stanford yesterday.If they orossed the Cumberland between Mill Springs and Stagg’s Ford, as rsported; they met at Somerset, and hare ehsioe of two roads, east toward Monnt Vernon and Stanford, or west into General Manson’s diatriot, in either ease our psople' are prepared for them. It is not proper at this time to state the disposition of our forces, but you will shortly hear military naws of some magnitude. Some eitisen in n high state of exoitement, reported that the veritable, ubiquitous John Morgan was in town in woman’s clothes, and described the dress and circumstances. All seemed reliable. An “intelligent contraband’' had seen him, and recognised him. Guards were detailed, and pursuit made.
