Local Guard Passes InspectionThe Algona National Guard unit was inspected by a Fifth Army Inspection General Team from Ft. Sam Houston, Tex. March 8.LTC Charles Heverly and MSG Vernon Stephen inspected all areas of the unit including personnel records, supply maintenance, training, equipment and food service. All National Guard units are inspected annually by a regular Army Inspection General Team.CPT. Chris Nygaord and SSG Allen Boelman, who are the Commander and AST of the unit, were commended for their knowledge of and completeness of administrative records.The only area the unit did not do well in was personnel strength, according to SSG Green, recruiter for the unit. This area will improve with the 2,000 educational assistance grants which the National Guard is offering.Any high school senior or graduate who enlists for six years can quality for the grant. It will pay for up to $500 per year with a maximum of $2,000.For those who do not wish to go to college or trade school, the guard is offering a $1,500 cash bonus.
