M at Hudson, gt and was gassed and wounded in action. . Jr In an early engagement of his regi- ; 1 ment he was gassed on the Toul sector,m an(* ^ was months before he was in condition to return to his company. He was hit by shrapnel in October in the battle of the Argonne forest and the wound on his foot is still unhealed. While at a hospital in France shortly after being wounded, he was in the same ward with Neal Callahan, who . was also wounded in leg at the battle 1 j of the Argonne. 'Private Carney is strong and rugged f in appearance and is in. good health with the exception of the wounded I foot.He comes from fighting stock, his grandfather, James Carney having' fought with distinction all through the Civil War.- » r*ee.
