Lemmon was suddenly .called to Washington yesterday on business of the 9 Regiment, and it is suspected we will leave :1 this place soon.r The Jr-a Harris Cavalry is Stationed at this place, and the 4th N. Y. Volunteers at Havre do G race, opposite the river.Yesterday your correspondent went over to the camp of the 4th, to see a soldier “drummed one.”For the benefit of your readers who never saw any “drumming out/’ 1 will give you a description:The Regiment was formed as for Dress Parade at a few minutes before o o’clock; at precisely 3 the prisoner was brought from the jjuard house by a corporal and guard of 6 men, to the front of the Regiment, and tho Lieut Col. read the charges, which were that the prisonei had attempted to strike his captain with a canteen of I whiskey; and the sentence by court martial , therefor was that the prisoner Lave one-half his head shaved, lose his pay, and be drummed out of camp, and imprisoned for 4 months at hard labor. The prisoner was then marched up and down in frout of the Regiment, the guard at a “charge bayonet,”the drums playing “Rogues’ March/' He was then taken in it out of the Colonel, and the buttons cut oft' his overcoat and jacket, ami marched down to jail by the guard at a “eharge bayonet” to the tune of Rogues' march.The boys are enjoying very good health, v. and are in fine spirits.Yours, respectfully, x. i. r.V . /
