Wakefield native wins journalist of the yearFORT DIX, N.J. — Air Force Tech. Sgt. Scott T. Sturkol captured six awards in the 2008 Air Mobility Command Media Contest, including Journalist of the Year for the second consecutive year.He placed first in combat documentation photography, newsphotography and series writing; second in art/graphics; and third place in photojournalism.Sturkol also was the commands Journalist of the Year in 2007, when he won four mediacontest awards and placed in seven categories overall.Sturkol is the son of David D. and Barbara A. Sturkol of Wakefield. His wife, Bobbi, is the daughter of Herbert Habersetzer of West Bend, Wis., and Marilyn Giackino of Black River Falls,Wis. *He is a public affairs supervisor with the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center at Fort Dix, and* ^* ** *fc ★ *+ ** *♦ *fSturkolhas been in the military for 17 years.In addition,Sturkol was also named the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Non-co m missioned Officer of the Year for 2008.The technical sergeant is a 1987 graduate of Wakefield High School. He earned associatedegrees in commercial art in 1989 from Gogebic Community College, Ironwood, and in public affairs from the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.He also earned an associate degree in 1996 in office management, and a bachelor’s degree in management in 2002 from Park University, Parkville, Mo.
