Raising^ a company of cavalry and/equipping it at her awn expense, she proceeded to Virginia and there Berved for' eight months on the peninsula, under the command of, the celebrated Col. Breux, before her sex was discovered. When this occurred r she was at once mustered out • and or- ju dered home.. Instead of obeying the order she proceeded to Columbus, Ky., I g] aud was.serving with Gen, Polk at the evacuation of that' place. She proceeded to Island Ko. 10, but, not being satisfied with the manner in wbieh affairs were conducted there, she left and went to Fort Pillow, where she was elected First Lieutenant in Ciipt, Phillips’ company of independent Tennessee cavalry.1 With her -company she proceeded to Corinth, ana reported to Gen.
