March 12, 1990. in Indiana Hospital.A son of Clyde C. and Edith Nesbit Green. he was bom Dec. 25. 1909. in New BrightonMr Green had lived m New Castle before moving to Indiana 20 years ago and was a member of the National Council ol English: Modern Language Association and College Communication and Composition Conference.He was a graduate of Mercers burg Academy. received a BA from Lafayette. MA from Columbia University, and PhD from New York University in 1958. He taught English for 42 years in the public schools in Pennsylvania. He started in New Castle public schools. Kutztown University; then IUP in 1950.While at IUP he served as chairman of the English Department and Associate Dean of Humanities from 1969-70. directed National Defense Education Act and English InstiLutes at 1 UP. He retired from IUP in August 1973Surviving are a son. James R Jr . Cromwell. Conn . a daughter. Edith Anne. DuBois. ;j grandson, one sister. Dorothy Martin. Dearborn. Mich.He was preceded m death by his first wife. Elizabeth Glover Green. on J:in. 11. 1977 his second wife. Kathryn Boston Green in 1988 one sister.
