Altoona Boys Go to ArmyForty-eight Altoona boys left the city on Gotham limited at 11.07 o’clock this morning for Fort -George Meade, Md„ to begin serv- I ice with the United States army. They were given a goodby by a ! number of relatives and friends.! Among them were a number of I fathers.There were fourteen selectees from local board No. 1, under the command of acting Corporal Simon Goldberg. Local board No. 2 entrained twenty-two men, with George McFarland as acting corporal, and No. 4 board sent twelve ■I men in charge of acting Corporal I ' Harold Zeigler.The three groups assembled at their respective board headquarters at 10 o’clock and received their j luncheon kits. Red Cross representatives were there to hand out the usual gifts to men called to the colors. The selectees were the first in a number of months to be sent to Fort Meade instead of the reception center at New Cumberland, Pa.
