James McDowell, who was arrested at Elkhart and taken to Marlon to answer the oharge of embezzling $15 belonging to his fianoe, Miss Lola Walker, is in jail there, awaiting his trial on March 1‘5. It is said that lie is charged with other shady transactions, one of which is that lie reported the loss by lire of $50 worth of perfumery with which he had been entrusted. An Elkhart hotel lias sent a board bill to be collected from him. It is declaimed he will inherit property worth $45,000 from iiis grandfather.
