Worthen, M.D.(Independent photo)Sabin Polio Immunization Date NearsOnly two weeks remain until the first of two scheduled polio immunization clinics at which the Sabin Oral Polio Vaccine will be given to the people of Star Valley, local doctors and school officials reminded this week.Friday, March 27, will be the date of the first feeding, and the second feeding is scheduled Friday, May 22.The Sabin Vaccine provides for an oral (and pleasant) method of immunization, and doctors urge all to take advantage of it. The vaccine is taken with a sugar cube.“Regardless of past polio immunization, we urge each individual to boost his immunization by participation on these two days,” said S. H. Worthen, M. D., Deputy Lincoln County Health Officer. “‘It should be emphasized that participation on both of these days is necessary, not just on one day. It is recommended for babies of six weeks of age and for all others up to and including old age. Complete and lifetime immunity is assured.”It is anticipated that all school children can be handled in the mornings from 9 a.m. toState Game and Fish CommissionerS. J. Jiacoletti Died SaturdayState Game and Fish Commissioner S. J. Jiacoletti died about 3 a.m.. Saturday, March 7, at De-Paul Hospital in Cheyenne after i long-standing illness.•£*After graduation Mr. Jiacoletti worked a short time in Number Three coal mine in Kemmerer, and for thirteen years at the First National Bank in Kemmerer. He also worked a short time for the U. S. Department of Agriculture beforegoing to work for the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission.Hp start pH work with thp12 noon on these days, and that pre-school age children and adults will be taken care of in the afternoons and evenings up to 7:30 p.m. The lower valley people will be served from the Holdaway School in Thayne, and the upper valley people will be taken care of at the new elementary school in Afton.Even though the doctors and the nursing staff are donating their time and services, it will be necessary to charge 50 cents for each immunization, or a total of $1.00 for the two. This is most inexpensive, representing only the cost of the vaccine, it was pointed out by Dr. Worthen.Supt. of Schools Carwin H. Linford said that it will be necessary for school children to bring to school a permission slip signed by a parent requesting the administration of the vaccine. Also, it is asked that the $1.00 charge for the two immunizations be paid in advance.Permission slips and requestsfor the $1.00 payment will be sent home with the children next week, Mr. Linford said. It is requested that the parents respond immediately, thus reducing the amount of time that teachers must spend on this matter.
