THOMAS MITCHELL9 T f Ai!-;-W^EEation training at the Nuclear Power Plant operators course, Fort Belvoir, Virginia.Until he was reassigned as aide and special assistant to Admiral Peltier last April, Lieutenant Mitchell served in various training jobs and was Chief of the Operations Training Branch, where he established and supervised a training course in the operation of the SM—I nuclear reactor at Fort Belvoir for Army, Navy and Air Force personnel. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for this work.Preparations by the Civil Engineer Corps officer and his crew will begin this Spring at Baltimore, Md., headquarters for the Martin Co. which is building the (PM-3A) nuclear power plant.Crew IncludesOne other officer and 19 enlisted men, including four from the Army and two from the Air Force, comprise Lieutenant Mitchell’s crew. The Baltimore training will aid the crew in assembly and operation of the PM-3A at McMurdo, where temperatures have been known to slip to 60 degrees below zero.Lieutenant Mitchell graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953 and received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1956.Waiting out the officer’s trek to the bottom of the world will be his wife, Lois, and the couple’s two children, Thomas Niles and Lee Elizabeth. The family presently lives at 3249 South Sixth St.. Arlington. Va.
