Survivors Will Be Pallbearers For BuddySix local survivors oi the Port Clinton Tank Company will serve as pallbearers Saturday forenoon at 9 o’clock when last military rites are held for one of their buddies, Sgt. John J. Merino, in SS. Peter and Paul Church, Sandusky.Serving as pallbearers will be John Minier, Kenneth Thompson, Joseph Hrupcho, Harold Beggs. Virgil Janes and John Short, all of this city. With Morine, they left Port Clinton in 1940 tor training in the south, landed in the Philippine Islands in November, 1941. and were on the Bataan Death March in April 1942.Morine died January 15, 1945, in Taiwan prison camp, Japan, as a result of malaria and malnutrition. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rosa Morine, Sandusky, formerly of Gypsum. His body originally was buried in Formosa, but later moved to mausoleums in Shanghai and Honolulu before being shipped to the states last month.Born Nov. 22, 1916, in Gypsum, John Morine spent most of his life in that village. He attended schools there and in Port Clinton and was employed by the U. S. Gypsum Company plant before entering service.
