Tex for duty as public information officer of the 1803rd Airways and Air CommunicationService group.During the 21 months prior to his present assignment the former Harveyite was stationed at Langley Air Force base, Va. with the 1800th AACS Wing, headquarters for all AACS activities in the continental United States. He was assigned his present duties upon graduating from a three months’ course for public information staff officers at the Armed Forces Informationschool at Carlisle Barracks, Pa., last November.0The lieutenant is a graduate of Thornton Township high school and was a long-time resident of Homewood and Harvey prior to his entrance into the Air Corpsin 1941. He received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1943and was a member of a combat air transport group on the central and western Pacific areas for nearly two years during the war.He returned to the U. S. on V-J day and has been a member of the Airways and Air Communications service since September, 1946.AACS, as it is generally known, is the world-wide component of the Air Force which furnishes all types of communications facilities and navigational aids to the pilots j and crews of the aircraft . An ex- jample of the importance of this ; 1organization’s mission is contained in the record of the Air Force on s Operation “Vittles” in Germany: j Without such AACS facilities as control towers, air-to-ground communications stations, radio ranges 1 a and ground controlled approach. 1: the project would have been seri- n ously hampered, if not completely jt! halted during the bad weather j c*conditions which prevailed in Germany during the winter months.; Lt. Edwards, whose sister Mrs. William Hercules, resides at 65 east 153rd st. Harvey recently purchased a new home at 554 Thorain ave, San Antonio.
