FAIRFIELIIHOSPITAL UNIT II ISSAFE AT DESTINATIONWAS PART OF GREAT FLEET OFTRANSPORTS A NO AMERICANWAR VESSELS.*“Arrived safely; all well and happy,’’ is the text of cablegrams received in Fairfield Wednesday from Major j Clark and Robert Anstead, of Hospital Unit R.The news was received with a sense of great relief by the many anxious j relatives and friends of the members I of the unit in this city. The sinking ,I of the Tuscania served to emphasize 1 1 the dangers of oversea traveling in 11 i the minds of Fairfield people and there was great anxiety felt for the safety of the unit.The messages received give no information other than that indicated in the text noted above; there is no knowledge of the time and place of landing nor of future movements. Some interesting supplementary in-forhation is given, however, by Mrs. | Maurine Browning Duffy, whose hus- jband is a member of the unit.Mrs. Du,.y went east when the unit, was called to the Atlantic coast for j embarkation and was with Mr. Duffy j ‘ some time before the unit sailed. From 1 various sources and from a sailor who 1 was to have sailed as a member of I the crew on one of the vessels, but lt;was ordered to duty with a later sail- i ing fleet, Mrs. Duffy learned that Hos- 1 pital Unit R formed a part of a fleet 1 of twelve transports loaded with I American troops and conveyed by | nearly forty war vessels. However,1 i no information regarding the destina- j tion of the fleet could be obtained.
