Y. i/P)—An F89Shooting Star jet plunged flam- ' ing into a field near here last night, killing the two Air Forceofficers aboard.The plane apparently caught fire shortly after taking off from Griffis Air Force base in a strong wind. It rocketed to the ground t about a mile from the base. I A Griffis spokesman identified 1 the victims as Capt. R. E. Staton,81, an instructor-pilot, of SouthBend. Ind., and Lt. E. N. Neu-bert, 29, of Brooklyn, who was piloting the plane under Staton’sinstruction. [The spokesman said both werestationed at the Presque Isle, i Maine, Air Force Base. The plane was bound for Presque Isle, the spokesman said, after a routine flight to Griffis.
