State Will Cooperate With Government in Internment Of Enemy AliensSANTA PE, March d lt;/PJ — New Mexico's cooperation in the federal government's program of Interning enemy aliens outside coastal com* bat areas was pledged by Governor Miles today in a telegram to War Secretary Henry L, Stintson.“In the proposed Internment of aliens,” wired the Governor, “New Mexico will cooperate to the fullest ex lea i in aiding the federal government. We urge, however, that to obviate any danger, the strictest measures be adopted in the administration and guarding of such camps.”The Governor’s message was released as it became increasingly evident that at least one abandon* ed New Mexico CCC camp was to be used as an internment center—presumably for Pacific coast Japanese.Governor Milos made clear, however, that migrating Japanese would have difficulty finding jobs in this state.“In fairness to all concerned,” he telegraphed, I believe we should point out at this lime that It will •be virtually impossible for Japanese to find employment in New Mexico, since we have a large number of our own residents idle and and others dependent upoii WPA for their livelihood.”Meanwhile, it was learned the Santa Fo CCC camp had been renamed “the Santa Fe detention station and preparations -were under way to increase Its capacity from DtXl to perhaps 3;00Q.
