fetter from Tcnneiioo.Tcinkll Hill, Deo. 24th, IFflf.i two years ago I was enjoying the comfort* of home, and the fcslt;ocaUon of ;the fireside; it is quite the reverse today. I am hovering around a little smoky fire, trying to keep warm, in the mountains of northern Georgia, where the winds seem to blow from icy regions, and every blast that comes seems but to remind one of the blessings of the hearthstoneWe Texians feel very lonely at times, away a long distance from those we love. I have Ruarded against becoming homesick all the while until since the lastlTS^Urei0fMiMl°nary Kldgc Hnd Bingold, *lnccwhich, I have been coosiderbly effected with that terrible d tease. from which no comfort seems to arise. 1 bgve paased through so many narrow escapes for my life lately, that I sometimes think that if I go into another battle, without seeing homefolka,I never will be permitted to enjoy that much souxht for privilege. At the fight of Missionary B?dge our brigade dis-j played great courage and chivalry. Attacked by ^overwhelming numbers, they stood firm to their ground and drove the Yankees with great slaughter. Desperate charges were made by both parties, butthe \ aukees never reached our line. The neareitman that approached was a negro ; he got within twenty feet of uur battery, and was atruck on the head with a rock and imtantly killed, Bocks were used very frequently by our boy• when they got too close to loan, and with considerable effect. We captured in one charge five stand of eolora. Our brigade occupied tha extreme right of the army ; we were moved from the centre about 12 hour* before the battie commenced. It was at the point we had left that our line was broken. I am confided that if our .brigade had remained in the centre, or in their old position, the victory would have been ours; but it was our misfortune to be moved from ourbreast works and piaced in the open field, withoutany shelter save our own itrong arms. I considerIt purely a piece of cowardice that the battle wua lost ; if other parts of the line had remained firm, the result would have been different
