RALPH E. BISHOP JR.Corporal Missing in Korea ActionWord that Cpl, Ralph E. Bishop Jr., 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Bishop, 1005 E. Hill St., is missing in action in Korea has been received by his wife and parents after a delay of more than a month presumably caused by a change of his family’s address. His wife, Anita, and their children, Ralph III, 5, and Joy Anne, 4, recently moved from 20723 Reginer St., Artesia, to his parents’ home here.Tuesday a letter his mother had written to him came back from the office of Co. D., 38th Reg,, 2nd Inf. Div., stamped Missing in Action. It was thefirst word the family had that Cpl. Bishop was missing. The next day his wife received a Defense Department letter, forwarded from Artesia, confirming a telegram she never received, announcing that he was missir.g in action as of May 18.Cpl. Bishop, who served in theNavy for four years in WorldWar II, enlisted in the Army two vears ago. He was a sergeant of artillery in Korea but obtained a transfer to the 38th Reg. of the 2nd Div. by accepting a reduction in rank to private. Since joining the 38th he again was advanced to 'corporal,Cpl. Bishop, who was discharged from the Navy m Long Beach, attended school in Burnside, Iowa. His brother, Richard William, 19, who was born in Long Beach and went to schools here, was killed in an accident at Wendover Air Base, Utah, on maneuvers in World War II.
