Aboard are 1,202 navy personnel, 442 army nurses and seven civilians, including Sens. Richard Russell (D) of Georgia and Burnptt R. Maybank (D) of South Carolina.Another ship, the S. S. Marine Raven, with 3,002 troops of the 387th regiment of the 97th infantry division, is scheduled to anchor off Piermont, N. Y. today. |Ten army pilots of the First air Commando group, who flew more than 6,000 supply and mercy missions in unarmed grasshopper planes over Burma, Thursday said they are eager to return to the war with planes that can fireback.The group arrived at LaOuardia field from Casablanca on rotation furloughs, with a total of 3,980 hours In the combat air zone, many of them flown far behind Japanese lines.
