The Stoystown Post-office.Pwi n vniWe find the following letter, written to the editor of the Johnstown Tribune for publication, printed in that paper, I sj and as it indicates an error on the part ] p, of our correspondent we reproduce it: Allow me to make a few remarks in* %Mmeelt;roi.L-d)-l eO*(is 11-V-m11,t-kV.iderL8.regard to the Stoystown post-office. A correspondent, writing to the Somerset j n( Standard last week from this place, says: ‘It seems tint Stoystown could I 111tfind no Democrat for postmaster, and, 1)( as a consequence, was compelled to go | P into the Republican ranks for the same. The appointment here is considered an indirect victory for the Republicans.' Wqw for the facts in the case. The person appointed-^^TSr Bfclle Zimmer-' man—is the widow of the late Wm. E. Zimmerman, who died a few months ago, and who was an applicant for the office at the time of his death. Mr. Zimmerman was an old soldier, having served three years in Company D, One Hundred and Forty-second Regiment,4/ oPennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. The Regiment in which he served met with more losses than any other in the Union Army, with one exception, as the records of the War Department willshow. Through wounds received and disease contracted while in the service of his country, he was a great sufferer for manv years, and his widow is left in• t-very moderate circumstances. Mr. Zim-merman was a straight-out Democrat all liis life, and never voted any other ticket.“The only other applicant for the office was a young man who has only vo-%0 n %/ted two years and whose father is a Pro-hibitionist. Now, in view of these facts,I consider that the appointment is not only a democratic victory, but also a4^victory for right and justice. The appointment gives universal satisfaction, except, perhaps, to a very few who were pecuniarily interested.“I simply give these facts in regard to the matter that no wrong impression may go abroad in regard to the appointment.
