10th Year Here Being ObservedRadio Corporation of America’s Cambridge Plant will celebrate its 10th anniversary here with “open house festivities from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. During those hours, tours will be conducted throughout with entertainment and refresh ments to he provided for visitors during their round trip through the facilitiesNormal plant operations will be suspended Saturday to per mit carrying out the planned activities. Some persons have said they expect the attendance total to hit 10,000 persons by the time the festivities draw to a close.From 11 a m. to 4 p.m., special entertainment will oe furnished by the 44 voice Zanesville Youth Choir The refresh ments will be available constantly during the “open house hoursTour guides have been selected and trained to assist in answering questions of persons going through the tour. Signs have also been located at various displays to help answer questions about the various projects exhibited.RCA came to Cambridge in May. 1953 when the company took over the plant formerly occupied bv the Continental Can CoIn 1957 the plant was expanded to the point where it consisted of 220,000 square feet, or approximately eight acres of facilities under roof.The Surface Communications Division of RCA took over the plant in January, 1961. Recent expansion of the white room, considered the largest facility of its kind in the world, gave that section of the plant 70.000 square feet of space providing forced filtered air and strict humidity • temperature control for the high reliability manufacturing carried on there Under SurfCom, employmenthas grown from 700 to 3.700 persons. and RCA is now the largest single area employer.The local plant was once termed the “High Fidelity Capital of the World during the time it was operated by the Home Products Division. Dur ing that period, record changers and many other items were manufactured by RCA hereTermed by company official* as an “autonomous organizational arrangement, the Cambridge plant is now more of a self sustaining operation than it has ever been before. It is a complex capacity affair, with complete engineering, financial and material operation, as well as a complete Product Engineering Department capable of keeping abreast of all the latest developments in the electronics field, and also coming with some new “wrinkles of its own.Many of the items manufactured and assembled at the Cambridge plant are for military use The white room facility was needed in order to build the high reliability products for the Minuteman inter-continen tal ballistics missile (ICB.V1).A company spokesman said that one-way traffic will be conducted in and out of the plant Saturday. They are asking visitors to enter from Cochran Ave., on the west side of the plant, and to leave via the eastern exit on Byesville RdLocal automobile dealers will provide automobile service to and from the “open house from 11 a m. to 6 pm., following the “Area Industry Appreciation Day parade Saturday morningOhio Gov. James A Rhodes was originally scheduled to attend the event, but it was stated that he would not be present for the Saturday festivities.Souvenirs will be provided for all persons attending the RCA “open house
