Three Killed in Air CrashBLYTHE, June 28. (* Three National Guard airmen were killed yesterday in a collision of a P-51 Mustang fighter and an A-26 bomber over this southeastern California community. Two other fliers parachuted to safety.The collision occurred directly over the city, but the planes fell 500 yards-apart in a desert area about a quarter-mile north of there._ Two of the victims Were identified by National Guard officers as 1st Lt. William E. Van De-linder, Los Angeles, pilot of the attack bomber, and 2nd Lt, Robert Aiken of Rosemead.The name of the third was ’ withheld pending notification of his parents, who were reported vacationing.. Both planes were attached to the 62nd Wing of the California National Guard and were on a training mission from the Na- ' tionai Guard field at Van Nuys.Lt.-Raymond‘L. Mathews of Burbank, pilot of the fighter, bailed out and landed about half a mile north of Blythe. The . other flier to bail out was Lt. Harold A. Bowen of Pasadena, a crew member of the bomber, who suffered back injuries.
