Plaque to HonorCounty ’s War DeadRecent statistics released by the state adjutant general’s office reveal that 13 Guernsey County men lost their lives in Vietnam during our nation's longest war.Those who made the ultimate sacrifice were:Robert A. Ausmus, Cambridge; James S. Brister, Fairview; Donald E. Chambers, Kimbolton; Carl R. Harbin Jr., Cambridge; Joseph L. Kane, Cambridge; John E. Ijeasure, Cambridge; James D. Snyder, Derwent; Garry L. Uplinger, Cambridge; Emory D. Voorhies, Cambridge; Charles M. Wayt, Cambridge; Jerry I-ee Hurley, New Concord; Clifford E. Bench, Cambridge and Dale R. Hood, Iewisville.As a living memorial to these men, a tree was planted at the county courthouse by the Cambridge Area Beautification Council.A bronze plaque bearing the names of those killed in Vietnam will be established at the living memorial by the Cambridge Lions Club, in cooperation with the beautificationcouncil.In the event that the name of any Guernsey County man who lost his life in Vietnam has inadvertently been omitted from the above list, persons with information concerning him are asked to contact immediately Greg Parks, council secretary, at 439-3531 or 439-3739.A complete list of names is required for the casting of the bronze.
