When we come together .as we are assembled to day the mi ad naturally reverts back to those earlier days, to the. old regiment with its 1060 men in. the prime of life. We,shalllt;always remember Capt. Day, Major Miller and the men wlio fell during that campaign. Major Parker—we used to have many a joke on him, atid yet we know be was a noble man. Wtf remember the hea vy hard oak tree shot away at Bpottsylvania May 12, *64. I always look at this tree when in Washington, and think of those 22 hours of fighting, heavy and in the rain most of the time. Those who fell iu that campaign are not permitted to see what we see to-day—the school houses covered; withYbe old flag. We realized the awful loss—and yet, realizing It all can say: “What was done, was done for the country and was worth more than all it cost.” We Shall never see again in this country civil war. The-memory of all those boys who fell from the streets of Baltimore to Appomattox 'is surety against it. Day, Miller, Smart, Parker, Wefchereli, Munyon—’we can’t forget them—And odr children must not. , The memory of those who died is greator defense to the.county to-day than those who live to hold bayonets. Comrades, thl is the best day of the year—these reunions always are the best day of each year.
