IN ALABAMA CAM?Calvin Folkera Left California Recently—16 Days in Army.A brief summary of a letter received Saturday from Camp Rucker, Alabama tells some of his experiences. Calvin is well known to “the home folks.” He registered in California, where, for the past two years he has been employed by one connected with the “movies” in the Hollywood section. Brief extracts:“Hello, everyone!” It seems onlya few days si nee I left Ackley, butit is actually a month. Have been inthe army just 16 days; have coveredall of 2,500 miles. Liked the trip;traveled in Pullman sleeper, with dining-car attached, * * * Left Camp McArthur Friday, June 12. Tomorrow we will be classified and detailed s to some division of the army. Have no idea what branch I'll be in; infantry most likely. Richard and I had a nice trip leaving Ackley, to California; went through Texas to Camp : Barkley; spent day with Brother [ Earl. Then to VanNuys. Think Richard is working near Reno, Nevada.* * * Would appreciate very much if you'd put my name on the list, as I understand the World-Journal goes to the “boys in camp” gratuitously.* * * This camp is a large one and entirely new. * * * Hope everybody is happy in the old home town. Can’t seem to forget it, after all. Best regards. Calvin.”
