Phoenix Man Awarded ScholarshipEarl J. Connolly of Phoenix, a Dairy Science student at the University of Georgia, was named winner of the Southern Association of Ice Cream Manufacturers $500 scholarship award for 1909. The award is one of two given annually by the Southern to the two most out standing juniors in dairy manu facturing from Maryland toTexas.A 19G1 graduate of the Dairy and Food Science program at the State University Agricultural and Technical College at Canton. Connolly is 27 years of age and married. At Canton he was vice president and president of the Dairy Science Club and played varisty basketball.He was graduated from Phoenix Central School in 1959. While in military service. Mr. Connolly was in the Military Police stationed in Germany. He was captain of his post basketball team and was selected to the U.S. Army Kurope All Star Team. He was also selected as one of two military policemen from all of Germany to serve on a liason mission to Holland to assist in handling American service men on leave in that country. For this assignment he received special commendation from military officials in Holland as well as the U.S. Army.At the University of Georgia Mr. Connolly has been active in the Dairy Science Club, being elected a delegate to the Southern Regional meeting of theAmerican Dairy Science Association in New Orleans earlier this year. There he was elected vice president of the Southern Division - Student Branch of ADSA. He will serve as a delegate from Georgia Dairy Science Club at the ADSA national meeting in Minneapolis, Minn. June 22-2R. Mr. Connolly has been nominated for the office of President of the Student af-filate section of ADSA.
