A letter from Louis Kent this week, says in part: I have enjoyed Army life at this place (Texarkana, Texas) more than I. did in Mississippi. My wife is here, and I am living off the post—living in town, like people. And speaking of people, the civilian attitude toward the G. I. Joe is an improvement over Mississippi. For instance, I bo ugilt a 10-day book of tickets to ride back and forth on the bus, but I got so many rides from civilian drivers that the book lasted me 19 days. The USO here is a show place, as USO’s go.“This is the state about which Bob Pauley said that he got a mouth full of sand every time he did an about-face. I find it take© a little extra grit to help withstand this torrid sun. I might add, however, that this is the state of the man-eating chiggers.Sincerely,LOUIS A. KENT (Of the Chair-Borne Troops).ft
