Pocatellan Wins Citation for Bravery in ActionMrs, Margaret Bailey Waylett, who is living here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larin S. Salley of Richland avenue, has received the bronze star medal awarded her husband, Pfe. William C. Waylett. Pfc. Waylett Is expected home soon on a 30-day furlough. Hb wife says he expects to be assigned to duty In the Pacific area. He has been in service two and one-half years, having been inc cted at Pocatello. He is a graduate of Rupert high school and at the time he entered the service was employed by the Pacific Fruit Express company at Pocatello.The presidential citation, dated May 23, 1945, reads as follows:“Pfc. William C. Waylett, medical department, medical detachment, 414th Infantry, U. S. army, for meritorious service in connection with military operations in Belgium, Holland and Germany from Oct. 23. 1944, to May 1.1945. During this period, Pfc. Waylett performed his duties as driver in a highly meritorious manner. On one occasion he voluntarily drove a party to a point where several men had been seriously wounded by enemy mines and then voluntarily assisted them In removing the men from the minefield. On this and many similar occasions, Pfc. Waylett performed actions above and beyond the call of duty which were responsible for saving the lives of his fellow soldiers, reflecting distinct credit upon himself and the armed forces of theUnited States.
