Church St., Lockhart, Texas, or email kathibliss@post-register.com.Joseph Calvin Cochran: — ... ‘ *Joseph Calvin Cochran was the oldest son of Archibald Crockett (“Archie7') and Irene Cochran. He was born on Nov. 26, 1916. Archie was, for most of his life, a farmer and poultry producer. Until the mid-1930s the family lived in the Bethany area of Guadalupe County. Calvin, as he went by, had three younger siblings - Eldon, Alleen (Hulen) and Thomas (Jack). TheCochran family was active in the Baptist church. Although the family farmed in Guadalupe (and later in Gonzales) County, Calvin attended Luling schools and graduated from Luling High School in 1934. He then went to work at the Luling Foundation Farm, working in the dairy. In 1939, Calvin enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Randolph Field outside of San Antonio. He received his training at Moffett Field, Calif., Brooks Field, Texas, Chanute Field, 111., LasVegas, Nevada, and Lowery Field, Colo. He was stationed at several airfields in Kansas, Nebraska and Washington.He rose through the ranks as an enlisted man, and at the time of his death was a Master Sergeant and Flight Officer, serving as a flight engineer on the largest bomber in the United States inventory, the B-29 “Superfortress.
