(Photos h\ ukmii. y '44*L. ...Police Check*Finding of Car BombSitka Police this week investigated the finding of a bomb inside a car.The car. which had belonged to dim Brocksen. was sold last Thursday morning to Homer Sutter When Sutter drove it later that day to the FAA garage he opened the hood and discoveredthe bomb, a canister of fuelattached to the spark plugsPolice investigating officer SgtKd Thornton said the bomb apparently didn’t go off becauseit was poorly made If it had goneoff. it probably would havestarted an engine fire instead ofcausing an explosion, he saidThere was no way to tell forcertain how long the bomb hadbeen in the car. but Sgt Thornton said police think it was put in the night before The car was parkedboth at Brocksen s home in Sollar’s Trailer Court, and at Automotive Parts and Equipment, which Brocksen managesSitkans Pay Tribute To American FlagA rewarding number of Sitkans turned out to observe and take part in the Flag Day parade and ceremonies last Sunday, despite the cool winds and threat of rain The colorful parade formed on the Moose Lodge parking lot and proceeded to the Pioneer Home lawn where a stirring tribute to the flag was given by Exalted Ruler Vern Rennick and the officers of the local Ixxige 1662B POEAfter the opening prayer by Chaplain Dave Audette. a patriotic welcome was extended to all by Mayor Ben Grussendorf Appropriate response was given by Organist Clifford Robards after which an address was given by State Rep DickEliasonAfter the “Call to Colors’’ was played by bugler John Hanson, the history of the flag was related by Loyal Knight Dick Heim as the presentation of flags was made by the representatives and Color Guards of the Coast GuardThe legion Auxiliary. Veterans of Foreign Wars. The 9th Infantry. Sitka Girl Scouts. Sitka Brownies. Sitka Boy Scouts. Sitka Cub Scouts. Flks I»dge 1662. Sitka Emblem Club 142, Det Marine Corps league and othersA poem To The Flag, was recited by Past State Elks Association President.
