I eAt IGrieeneclateifantposswored, jvita!Ihs Floating Hospital—Its Stkwahd *hd his Conduct.—-Of late much has been said of the bad management on the Floating Hospital Nashville, now lying at the foot of Lower Fourth street. We were called up-oo this morning by Mr*. Snivcly, one among the most highly respected ladies in the city, a id one whose constaut visits to our hospitals nod kind treatment of our sick nnd wound-5 ^soldiers, have become themes oi admiration ^ ^ among all those whose hearts throb in svm-pathy for our suffering deleuder*.Mi s. S. described to us the management and conduct of affairs by the Steward on the Floating Hospital, and her statement, if published in detail, would fill the heart of every honorable eitiaen with indignation against him Mrs. S , in company with Mrs. McDonald, the lady of John S. McDonald, Esq., of this city, a few days since took a couplo of baskets filled with provisions to the boat, but they were not permitted to take them aboard to those for whom they were intended, and were insulted by the gross language of the officers.Mrs. Sniveiy has made a statement against these moa, which she has forwarded to#Surgeon Wood at Louisville, a gentleman whowiii not for a moment knowingly tolerate #ach ungentlemanly, indecent conduct.Another charge by Mrs. S. is that the patients on the boat are not half fed, and that the sanitary goods sent to them are seldom ever beard from after they reach the hands of the Stoward. Mrs. S. sent down to the boat several caus of tomatoes, enough to have Euppiied every sick patient on tho boat with a portion. But ten of the patients ever go; any cf them, and they state that they did not receive over two tea spoonsful each. Blackberries were procured, which the patients testify the Steward ate, with sugar, in the commissary room. They watched him and saw what they assert. Many other disgraceful acts of this Stew ard were stated by Mr*. Snlvely. which wc have not room toenumerate. In behalf of our sick and wounded soldiers we publicly call upon surgeon Wood to investigate the charges. The ladies making tnem are among the first ladies of our city. The soldiers endorse what the ladies say.I f the facts are even half as bad as represented this Steward should be sent to the Dry Tortugas for the balance of his natural life, ii he is innocent, then we must say he is one of the most unanimously slandered men we have yet beard of being connected with our hospitals. Inasmuch as so rauQh has been said and written on this subject, we hope surgeon Wood will at once institute a rigid scrutiny into the management and con-d ict of all the officers eonnected4 with tEe Floating HospitalWe have deemed u due to the ladies calling on os to make this explanation, as we made the statement on yesterday at the instance of Mr. Smart the Steward We are sorry to be compelled to have so much to do with this matter, bnt oome what may, we are bound to defend the private soldier against the outrageous conduct^ of officers placed over them.timtwill the kne a m sonMe:loiqsaidwillwaihal;neestrunotwa}andandtinnmetriveneepre:1rigtthe Col a 1 acrColwa«mlfirealnbacsprpulfellmeiin 1 tal, doMosai(Golt;norhe1gletheancetrithetoyarousfiveLierecnev1life for A 1thehuitosix
