The Whitestown Hiotebs,—The enrolling officer in Whitestown, Boono county, was driven out on Monday last, while in the discharge of his duty. He entered a blacksmith ghop, where were twenty-five or thirty men who refused to give their names, and violently abused the officer. In tho meantime about as many women came to tho entrance, to whom the men gave way, when the women abused him, and seemed about to ogg him. Pre-to draw his revolver, they left shouting “murder.” The men returned with the women, and while the officer was held between two of the men, he was pelted with eggs. The women then left the shop, and the men gathered abont the officer and threatened to burn his enrollment list. He drew his revolver, threatened to shoot the first man attempting to do it, and left the shop. He returned to Lafayette, and reported to Provost Marshal Parke.Tuesday afternoon Captain Parke, Provost Marshal of the 8th District, having completed his arrangements, went from this city on the 8:30 p. m. train to the vicinity of Whites-town, with a detachment of the 63d regiment, under Captain Holloway. They camped a mile and a half from Whitestown. 'Wednesday morning, about d o'clock, they visited the town, and threw out pickets around it, homming in its inmates. Fourteen of the parties who resisted the Commissioner were arrested, brought tr'this city yesterday morning, and turned oVer to the civil authorities. They are the prominent men In the town, and active Butternuts. On Tuesday night there were about one hundred and fifty Butternuts, all armed, in Whitestown to resist the arrrest of the guilty parties. They left at midnight. A pretty good haul of arms wes made. While the arrests were being made, the enrollment went oxr, over fifty being enrolled without any difficulty or disturbance.Captain Parke was assisted by B. J. McAfee, Deputy U. S. Marshal, and Captain Beem, of Lafayette, in making the arrests, and returns bia thanks to them and the military for the valuable assistance rendered.The prisoners gave bail in the sum of one hundred dollars each for their appearance heforo United States Commissionef E. A. Davis, at two o’clock this afternoon, when a preliminary examination will be had.There names are: Jeremiah Gleason, Sandy Buckner, Nathan Curtis, James M.
