At Branch A, Camp Ruston, 2,277 recruits completed the intensive training. .The first: step tan .the- program for the WAAC rookies was being loaded into Army trucks manned by WAAC motor transport specialists to ride from the train station to the camp. Upon arrival there, they went to the checking station for physical examinations, before assignment to basic companies and barracks.which were their homes for the first month of their military careers. There, they learned quickly the best methods of ar-; ranging clothing in olive-drab foot tnd wall lockers for neatness and?pace conservation.During the first week of processing, or orientation, the recruitstook special classification tests ind were tentatively classifiedfor the Army jobs to which theywere* best adapted by civiliant11lt; iraining.WAAC recruits at Camp Rus* on followed the same military ichedule and studied the same r.ilitary subjects as do basic train-ng students in the regular Army, such courses as close order drill, shysical training,- military customs and courtesy, defense against jhemical and air attack, first aid, md map reading groomed the :rainees for^their future jobs in a “wartime” world.
