ARCHErected to Confed-eraJe Dead-Dedicated Columbus With Imoressive Ceremonies In Presence of Thousands.Columbus, Ohio. Junelfi — The un-v. iling and dedication of a memorial arch to 2.500 confederate dead at-trat ted 5,000 people from all parts of the country to this city Satmday. The arch was the gift of William 11. Harrison, of Cincinnati, a former resident1 of Columbus. The soldiers were pris-oueis at Camp Chase, v est of Columbus. during the war and hied in prison.For many years the little cemetery 1 was neglected. Former President Hayes paid a farmer to keep the burial ground free from weeds. Former Governor Foraker had the government enclose the spot with a stone wall. Several years ago Colonel William II. Knauss, oi Columbus, a former federal soldier, instituted a yearly custom of decorating the graves.Mr. Harrison was not a soldier in either array, but was influenced in making the gift by sentiment. The ceremonies of Saturday were the most elaborate ever held. There were many e-confederates present fioin all parts of the South, and there were many floral offerings from the confederate (amps in the South. Among the speakers was Governor Nash.
