Frank J, Rodgers, 21, of r Collirtgdak-, a piiot with a fighter squadron, is shown in an Army hospital in tin- Hawaiian Islands receiving his Purple Heart from Maj. Hen, H. T. Burgin, commanding general, .Central Pacific Base Command. A piece of shrapnel ripped into Rodgers' side, but he managed to crawl back into his tent and awaited first aid. Previously, ('apt.. Rodgers was awarded the Air Medal.
