It was the greatect of them all. There has been none before that would in any manner compare with this demonstration suggested by and carried out by the Benevolent Protective Order of Elkfl.Long live the Elks!It was a happy thought that Invaded the lodge room of this organization. When the Flag Day demonstration was first mentioned n took” and with one aclaim every member of the order was for It The enthusiast spread— result the parade, the flag presentation by the order to the city park board of the park flag, the splendid address by Herbert C. Jones and the masterly response by Mr. H, C. Morrison. president of the First National bank and president of the Chamber of Commerce.The street demonstration was a mingling of the residents of the city without distinction. There was a get-to-gether movement that is a harbinger of better conditions. It was a day that all will Uv© until next Flag Day when It is hoped the Elks will agavu be in charge. Flag Day has come to Btay. Each succeeding June 14 wi?l see even a larger effort than that put forth on this occasion.Every person taking part or in anymanner assisting In the parad* are entitled to consideration. Work and rlenty of it is required for a demonstration that took on the magnimae that this one finally assumed.. The pay they will receive will be found in tho pleasure it created for ths hundreds who lined the streets and for c, task well done. From the head of the first division to the last automobile the demonstration was pleasing. The Connersviilo Chamber of Commerce brought the Boys’ Band of that city and it was given the post of honor. The little fellows are 6ome musicians and created more than a favorable impression. The Connersville boosters were much in evidence. They were advertising their centennial celebration which they did with a vim and a snap that will carry many of our people to that city. Standiug in the center of the Public Square as the procession was turning to go south, one of these Connersville men thought the crowd was not sufficiently demonstrative when the great flag carried by the Chamberfs Mfg. Co. men marched by, He yelled out: You people are too dead. Three cheers for the red, white and blue! He took off hie hat, swung it around bis head let loose a yell and , the crowd Joined in. He smiled audibly and declared That's the way to do it” !Participating in the parade was the Boy Scouts, the G. A. It., the sons of Veterans, In the first section. Thoband of 1G was at the head of the next section. This was decided a feature. Two men from Mr. Bland's orchestra were the drummer and the fifer while Guy Lemmon carried the flag. Trooping along was a hundred or so of little children from thepublic sehodls each carrying a flag.Captain Tip Weakley looked after the children. A float with Uncle Sam!and Liberty followed in the wake of the children. The city officials next lined up and then was one of the special events of the day. The girls from tho Kennedy Car Liner plant and from the Monte Glove Co. marched in double file. They wore not in their doll clothes but they looked mighty good and they sure boosted their shopg by their splendid appearance. Follow ing in compact order were employees . from the Conrey Davis plant, the Campbell Furniture Co., me Blanchard Hamilton, the Wardrobe, the Desk Co., the Hodell, the Spiegel factories the Davis-Blrely, the Albert and the . Danzinger plant The Conrey-Davis men all wore white uniforms with white caps. They were decldely con-spicious.The High school Band maintained its reputation. It headed the division la which tho Elks participated. Each Elk carried a flag and a many color-(Contfiued on Pago 4, CeL 4)
