Owen County Will Furnish Over Fifty More Men This Month.Owen county’s quota of drafted men to be sent in answer to the call for the five-day period beginning June 24 will be thirty-six, the state conscription officer has informed the local board. The exact time of their departure will be announced later. The men will be sent to Camp Sherman, Chillicothe, Ohio.The total for the state for this call is 4,000 men.The instructions to the local board say that only white men physically qualified for general military service are wanted under this call. Theyare to be taken onlv from Class 1 of the selective service system, but. the board is instructed that men actively engaged in the planting or cultivating of crops are to be spared unless the quota may not otherwise he obtained. The board is given power to include such farmers “as in his opinion can best be spared.”Just who will compose the men who will leave in this five-day period has not yet been determined.Two men will leave on June 28 for Purdue University to take the course of instruction in mechanics there. Harry Wampler, of Gosport, and Ossie Johnson, of Freedom, have volunteered for this service.On June 15 six men will be sent to the Government Training School for mechanics at Indianapolis to take the course of instruction there. The following have been selected.Ross H. Johnson, Quincy.Herman Fox, Gosport.Clarence O’Conner, Quincy.Benjamin H. Sipple, Quincy.Jesse E. Jones, Quincy.John W.
