MOBERLY SAILOR LISTED ‘MISSING’Navy Says Clarence Brockman May Be Prisoner of the JapsHr. and Mrs. Grover Brockman, route 1, Moberly. have been notified by the Navy Department that their oldest son. Clarence, is missing- in action on the Pacific ocean. Brockman, who enlisted in the Navy three years ago, was a member of the crew of the Houston. sunk off the coast of Java in March.It was on the Houston that Ira Bailey, son of Mrs. B. H: Bailey, 301 Collins street, lost his life. Bailey has been listed as Randolph county’s first casualty in the present war,The .letter from the Navy Department to the Brockmans told them that he is either killed or a prisoner of the Japanese. Theywere promised definite news assoon as possible.Young: Brockman, who was 23 years old last October, and had not been home since his enlist- ( ment and none of his family have seen him since that time. Mail, however, until he entered combat duty, had been fairly regular. Their last direct word of him was ! news of wounds sustained in Pearl j Harbor on January 9, but they ' were not told details in that letter. Brockman was a first class , seaman.Besides his parents other members of young Brockman's family are three sisters, Ruby and Betty of the .home and Frances of Mob-erly; and three brothers, Earl, Jakie and Larry Brockman, all of the home.
